1955–1970: Foundation and Early Growth
- 1955 – West Beach SLSC is founded.
- 1956 – Volunteer patrols begin, covering from Glenelg North to the Torrens River mouth.
- Late 1950s–60s – The original tin shed is built north of the current clubhouse; members from this era become known as the Tin Shedders.
- First Bronze Medallion members
- 1962–63 – West Beach wins the State Championships, establishing early competitive success.
1971–1985: Expansion and Inclusion
- Ongoing club growth and community recognition.
- Early 1980s – Women are permitted to earn the Bronze Medallion, revitalising club culture
- 1984 – The club fields an all-female R&R (Rescue & Resuscitation) team at Aussies.
- 1985 – Judy Veigh wins Miss Surf Life Saving Australia, highlighting women’s contribution.
1986–2000: National Success and Innovation
- Late 1980s – Amanda Bird and Cher Hutton win national First Aid titles (1988–1990).
- Mel Davis-Bishop – First Aid National Title
- West Beach becomes the first SA club to train female IRB drivers.
- The club gains national attention for its lifesaving and first aid programs.
- 1999 – Hosts the National IRB Championships.
2001–2015: Community Engagement and Growth
- Growth in nippers, youth, and senior competition programs.
- 2013 – Launch of the Pink & Blue Swim/Walk/Run – over 10,000 participants and $740,000 raised by 2024.
- Expansion of VACSWIM and education outreach.
- 2007 – Multicultural program begins, pioneering beach safety for diverse communities.
- 2014/15 – Named State Champion Club.
2016–2023: Growth, Recognition & Redevelopment
- Club membership grows to over 700, including 218 active patrollers.
- Strong results across surf sports, pool rescue, IRB, and first aid events.
- Continued expansion of youth development and mentoring initiatives.
- The Multicultrual program remains a key strength, providing vital water safety education.
2024–Present: A New Era
- December 2023 – Opening of the new $8.5 million clubhouse, the largest surf club redevelopment in SA.
- Upgraded patrol, training, and member facilities, with support from all levels of government.
- February 2024 – Significant rescue event. Rescuing a man in an inflatable who was swept out to sea.
- March 2025 – Named State Champion Club for the first time in 10 years
